I'm the kind of consultant that walks the walk.
I'm not going to tell you to start a YouTube channel and post once 3x a week because "it's good for your branding".
I'm also not going to tell you to spend 5 hours a month planning your Instagram account because you can "grow a huge following and increase sales". And that you can "use my content calendar" to help you plan...because I don't use one, nor do I have one.
It's a bit different to that. I'm a practitioner. I have my own YouTube channel which I do my best to post 1 x per week (and it grows regularly on its own...sometimes faster, sometimes slower...but it grows). It's now approaching 30k subscribers and over 2.5 million views.
I have a Facebook business page which I don't have a routine of posting of (but gets Likes and Follows regularly, sometimes on its own, sometimes organically, and sometimes with a paid ad).
I have an Instagram account which I post 3x a week on. My audience engages with me and sends me Direct Messages telling me how my posts connect with them (I think the kids these days call it "sliding into the DM"). This grows 100% organically and is now almost at 4,500 followers (not a huge following, but my audience is tight knit, supportive and engaged), and we kick all sorts of goals together.
I have a LinkedIn account which I paid someone to write my bio. I never post on LinkedIn, but I like to see what people do there. And I understand the significance of having it, and will use it when it becomes the place for me to place all my efforts.
I'm on Twitter. I've posted about 18 times in my life, but I understand the significance of it, and how to connect with people.
I've made the mistakes and deal with the repercussions. (hugely to do with branding and consistency)
I've made the benefits and reap them everyday.
One thing is for sure. I know my goal, I know my theme, I know my voice and I know my purpose. And THAT is what drives all of the organic growth which I've had. I guess I'm not your average social media marketing expert ;)
Of course, I know the tools.That's how I reach millions of views. I know where people spend time and money. I know how to map out simple AND complex marketing strategies and the meaning of fancy words like demographics, psychographics, positioning, distribution, algorithms, ROI, KPI, curation, UX and all that jazz, but I'm not as interested in throwing around jargon as I am about getting actual results.

What service or skill set would you be able to offer me in practical terms?
My services will include a combination of working with you in consultation to understand you as a whole (aka as a person, as a brand and as a business), and your long term and short term goals.
As for my skill set, I am a full-rounded content creator who uses my understanding and experience of audience psychographics to drive how we distribute your content in the most authentic way. In short, I am a practitioner. The best part about being a practitioner, is that when something changes in the social media world, I'm often first to hear bout it because it affects me directly (aka it affects the output of my youtube videos, my facebook content, my Instagram posts, etc etc.
With this all said, I am ALWAYS learning, and moving with the waves of social media and consumer behaviour which means that my output is always productive rather than monotonous and/or purely process-driven.
My practices around training social media, and creating strategies is a little unique. Yes, I will use templates to guide our conversation, but your formula is YOUR FORMULA. It will be based around authenticity, sustainability and capability. In short, while I will teach you to understand algorithms and trends, our practice will not revolve around them. We will strengthen your understanding of marketing, which will then drive you to be able to use your tools fluidly.
How long (hours) would it take for me to learn the new skills / Social Media platform before I was okay on my own?
This is completely based on the current state of your (1.) practice (2.) Social Media Status (3.) Level of complexity of the strategy you need plus (4.) the practice required to achieve that.
To paint a picture, to go from beginner knowledge, presence and practice to stable foundation (including an understanding of basic marketing, demographics and psychographics in the social media space), I'd say 5-8 consults.
Complex corporate plans will most definitely be different from this because of the level of production and team members included in any given campaign or training session.
What edge would you be able to provide me as opposed to me just doing some Youtube video online training for Instagram?
I tailor everything to you...and I know that sounds like the most cliche pitch ever, but what this means is that, the methods that I pass onto you has a very high chance of being different from from the generic articles around. Secondly, I've been there, done that. I am pretty much the result of 3 years of watching of YouTube tutorials, business coaching, branding coaching and networking paired with some fundamental marketing stuff I learned from my Uni course. YES, doing it that way DOES work (which is why I'm here in the first place), so that will always be an option... My edge is that instead of taking 3 years of hits and misses, you should be good to go in 3-5 sessions.
Also, I've worked with influencers (other internet personalities) as a creative, then as an agency (coordinating campaigns and seeing them through). I've operated as a content creator and agency owner, which means I understand and have practiced organised systems of working. I can oversee effective work patterns, and tweak them for extra efficiency. I've run training workshops from Social Media general marketing to Video Marketing. I've created basic strategies, to complex strategies. And of course, my favourite part - I'm purpose-driven, and an active practitioner...which - there's not a lot of us out there who both practice, teach and consult.
Do I have any tangible takeaways from a consult?
Yes. After much research and development with business owners, startups and budding personal brands, I've listened and gathered all the pain points around understanding social media and the practice around it.
The most common pain points were (a.) I want to understand and practice but there's too much to learn (b.) I don't know where to start (c.) I don't know if I'm doing a good job (d.) I can't tell if I'm getting good results (e.) I don't have time (f.) I'm overwhelmed by all my knowledge and don't know how or where to place it.
SO. I created frameworks. They come in the form of fillable sheets and maps. YEP. Sheets and maps.
They are designed to simplify all of the above. And trust me...I had to work with coaches and designers to help me simplify my complex understanding of SOCIAL MEDIA to get this done. In short, it was a huge pain in the backside to make simple templates out of complicated things. And I did this purely to help your process be as simple as possible.
